Anti-racism and racial justice are core to our spiritual/religious values and taking action for justice and collective liberation is a way that we live our values, in our congregations, and in our communities. Racism works to divide us and maintain structural inequality. Racism works to undermine beloved community and undermine healthy and meaningful anti-racist efforts. This is a workshop to develop resilience, courage, and leadership for racial justice, rooted in the vision and values of liberation for all of us.
Join us for an interactive workshop with longtime social justice educator, author, and organizer, Chris Crass, one of the leading voices in the country calling for and supporting white people to work for racial justice. Whether you’ve been active for decades or a few days, this is an opportunity to develop a stronger culture of inspiration, resilience, and courage for racial justice. While one of the themes of the workshop is on white people working for racial justice, the overall theme of the workshop is on how we can build stronger racial justice values and action in our congregations and communities and the workshop is for all who want to do this work.
Creating a New Way: Workshop for Men on Courage for Feminism and Anti-Racism
Thursday, Jan. 27th from Tucson 5:30 - 7:30 pm
(zoom offering)
For white men and boys who want to live with social justice values in our hearts and minds, rather than the messages that blame people of color, women, LGBTQ+ for our pain. For white men and boys who want beloved community, who believe in the inherent worth and dignity of all, and want to be courageous against systems of oppression that divide us. This interactive workshop will be an opportunity to explore what it means to be feminist and anti-racist and ways that we can reject and heal from patriarchal masculinity and work together to live our values and root our identities in love and collective liberation.
Typically this workshop costs between $2000-$3000 per congregation. Because of congregations' commitment to their "fair share" dues to UUJAZ, and individual donors like you, we were able to work together as a state to host these workshops without a cost to attendees. You can make an optional contribution below to either of these funds:
Reparations Contribution: in lieu of a registration fee, white participants are encouraged to pay a suggested donation of $50+ in recognition of the historic legacy of racist economic policies and the ways in which generational wealth and greater access to economic opportunity have privileged white people as a group for hundreds of years. We will donate these funds to Black-led organizations working for racial justice, and/or as direct reparations to Black and indigenous organizers in our communities.
Select the $50 option below, or choose a custom amount through the Donate page of our site. List "Courage Reparations" in the notes.
Interdependence Contribution: Regardless of your racial identity, if your class privilege or finances allow you to pay more so that others may pay less, please consider adding an additional contribution to your total. We will use these extra funds to continue to provide anti-racism anti-oppression programming and opportunities for action.
