Scottsdale Becomes 8th City in Arizona to Pass LGBTQ Inclusive Anti-Discrimination Ordinance
It's official: Scottsdale City Council voted 7-0 to adopt a Non-Discrimination ordinance, No. 4497. This ordinance will fully protect LGBTQ families and individuals from discrimination in public accommodations, employment, and housing in the City of Scottsdale. Huge "thank yous" to the Equality Arizona team who has worked on this for years and years, and to all of YOU in Scottsdale who called Mayor David Ortega and City Council to fight for LGBTQ+ people to live and work free from discrimination.
Special shout out to our UUJAZ Board member Dr. Stuart Rhoden, a Scottsdale Human Relations Commissioner, for all of the important equity conversations he's leading in Scottsdale.

SB1456 vetoed
The harmful and discriminatory Senate Bill, 1456, would have erased LGBTQ+ history and experiences from public schools by requiring kids to get a permission slip signed before they can learn about important historical events like the Stonewall Riots or the history and science of AIDS.
Sex ed saves lives. Our kids need to understand consent to stay safe, and to speak up when something is wrong. They need to know how to make healthy decisions, and to make safe choices.
LGBTQ+ people are a part of our history, present and future, and kids need to learn from all the stories and struggles and triumphs of the LGBTQ+ community in our schools.
UUs showing up virtually to testify
So grateful to Karen and Elisabeth and Elizabeth and Rev. Christine and Marianne for your testimony, and the amazing leadership from Secular Coalition for Arizona and Equality Arizona and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona and every one of YOU who called their legislators, and then the Governor on this bill.

Hear from our partners at Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona, and Equality Arizona, about what you can do to defend LGBTQ+ and gender justice.
