Job Description
Executive Director
Founded in 2014, Unitarian Universalist Justice Arizona (UUJAZ) is a 501(c)(3) state action network which strives unite Arizona Unitarian Universalists (UU’s) in the promotion of social justice for all Arizona residents. UUJAZ is seeking an energetic half-time Executive Director who is committed to these ideals and is ready to take UUJAZ to the next level.
The Organization
UUJAZ focuses its relationship-based justice work on strengthening congregational justice ministries and connecting congregations and activists across the state. UUJAZ connects 13 AZ UU congregations through Issue Action Teams and educational events. The teams currently focus on immigration, education, water management and racial inequality. In addition to the Issue Action Teams, UUJAZ brings AZ UU’s together twice a year to build relationships and to learn about the social justice issues we face in AZ. The first event takes place on President’s Day at the AZ State Capitol, ‘UU Day at the Legislature’ provides an opportunity for UU’s to meet their legislators and nurture relationships with the hope that our progressive values can have an impact and create socially just public policy. The second event in the Fall of the year, is the ‘Issue and Action Day’ which is an educational event where the Issue Action Teams report on their individual work and all the UU attendees learn about the issues anticipated to be addressed during the next legislative session. The Position
The successful candidate will ensure UUJAZ continues to develop and advance policies that are true to its mission, maintains a strong reputation and builds strong relationships with both UU’s across the state and like-minded organizations. The Executive Director executes the strategy defined by the volunteer Board of Directors. This includes networking with UU clergy and lay leaders and community allies. Fundraising, event planning and maintaining a social media presence are all part of the job responsibilities.
The position starts in mid-June 2019. The Executive Director will be a Unitarian Universalist residing anyplace in AZ with good access to internet service. Travel requirements include annual visits to each of the 13 congregations as well as quarterly face-to-face Board meetings. When not meeting face-to-face, monthly Board meetings are conducted via Zoom video conferencing.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, Masters preferred

Salary Range
The Executive Director is a salaried, professional employee working half-time. The Unitarian Universalist Association gathers salary information on an annual basis and sets guidelines based upon job description, congregation size, cost of living, and experience. Following these guidelines, UUJAZ has set the salary range for the half-time Executive Director position between $17,875 and $25,200 per year based upon education level and relevant life experience.
