UUJAZ Annual Meeting

November 11th 2020, 6pm
Or anytime online!

Missed our annual meeting? That's okay, you can watch anytime for a recap what we've done together as a state this year in justice work! Hear from the Board, share some financial transparency, and talk about 2021 ahead. Thanks to the pandemic, there wasn't an in-person Issues + Action Day this year, where this meeting is typically held. We didn't try to replicate a day-long event on Zoom... instead, we've been bringing you lots of virtual programming options throughout the summer and fall, and will continue to do so into 2021. Come watch what we've been working on behind the scenes!

Beloved Conversations: Spring 2021

Beloved Conversations curriculum developers at Meadville Lombard Theological School have responded to the needs to learn how race and ethnicity shape our personal and collective lives and practices, in a virtual format. In 2020, 93 UUs from Arizona joined 1200 UUs in participating in the first half of Beloved Conversations: Within.

Within
The first phase, Within focuses on the internal work that each of us needs to do as we engage racial justice. This work is different for White folks and for Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) and will be done entirely in race-based caucuses. You do not need to have taken the Fall session to register for Spring: the two halves of Within can be taken in any order.
Read about Within here.

Within+ Exploration Stations
Finished with Within and ready for more? Join one of these play stations for your soul and engage in deep and creative ways, focused on one topic, as it intersects with issues of race and racism.
Read about
Within+ Exploration Stations here.

Among
The second phase of Beloved Conversations, focused on the institutional, systemic change needed in our congregations is open to Congregations whose members have participated in the first phase, Within.

Anti-racism and racial justice are core to our spiritual/religious values and taking action for justice and collective liberation is a way that we live our values, in our congregations, and in our communities.  Racism works to divide us and maintain structural inequality.  Racism works to undermine beloved community and undermine healthy and meaningful anti-racist efforts.  This is a workshop to develop resilience, courage, and leadership for racial justice, rooted in the vision and values of liberation for all of us.

Join us for an interactive workshop with longtime social justice educator, author, and organizer, Chris Crass, one of the leading voices in the country calling for and supporting white people to work for racial justice. Whether you’ve been active for decades or a few days, this is an opportunity to develop a stronger culture of inspiration, resilience, and courage for racial justice. While one of the themes of the workshop is on white people working for racial justice, the overall theme of the workshop is on how we can build stronger racial justice values and action in our congregations and communities and the workshop is for all who want to do this work.

Creating a New Way: Workshop for Men on Courage for Feminism and Anti-Racism
Thursday, Jan. 27th from Tucson 5:30 - 7:30 pm
(zoom offering)

For white men and boys who want to live with social justice values in our hearts and minds, rather than the messages that blame people of color, women, LGBTQ+ for our pain.  For white men and boys who want beloved community, who believe in the inherent worth and dignity of all, and want to be courageous against systems of oppression that divide us.  This interactive workshop will be an opportunity to explore what it means to be feminist and anti-racist and ways that we can reject and heal from patriarchal masculinity and work together to live our values and root our identities in love and collective liberation.
